RCN Northern Ireland launches Consultative Ballot on pay and safe staffing proposals

The RCN in Northern Ireland has launched a consultative ballot to ask members if they agree to the proposed framework agreement on pay parity with the NHS in England, and safe staffing proposals for Northern Ireland that have been endorsed by Health Minister, Robin Swann.
The RCN has appointed Civica Election Services who will manage and dispatch the ballot papers and associated consultation documents to members in Northern Ireland who are eligible to take part. These will be distributed via email, or for those members who do not have a valid email address, by post.
Any member who does not receive a ballot paper via email or post over the next few days and wishes to obtain a replacement, should email ballots@rcn.org.uk.
The ballot will consult members on both the restoration of pay parity and proposals on safe staffing. The Department of Health is developing a pay calculator where members will be able to check their own individual pay journey on the Agenda for Change refresh deal. This will be available on the Department of Health website when completed.
The RCN has produced a consultation document jointly with other trade unions and supplementary RCN information on safe staffing. These are available to RCN members here. There will also be a series of workplace consultation events to give members the opportunity to ask questions about the proposals.
The ballot will close on Friday 21 February at 12 noon.

“I am incredibly proud of the determination and commitment shown by them which has got us to this point in our dispute.
“It was never an easy decision to take strike action but nurses and nursing assistants have truly shown their determination to ensure that patients in Northern Ireland receive the care they deserve and that staff are treated and paid equally.
“I would urge all members to read the information carefully. This is your opportunity to have your say and ensure the voice of nursing is heard.”
