What is Congress?

RCN Congress is THE nursing event of the year. It’s free to attend and plays host to debates, keynote speakers, fringe events, an exhibition and a number of networking events.

Debates

The debates form the business agenda of Congress and are an opportunity for RCN members to share their opinions with RCN Council, and to influence the work of the RCN. You can submit an emergency agenda item here.

Debates at Congress 2022 included ethical overseas recruitment, safe staffing, compassion fatigue and COVID-19.

There are two types of debates; resolutions and matters for discussion. Resolutions are voted on. More information on becoming a voting member can be found here. Voting members are funded to attend Congress for the days on which they vote.

If you don’t want to submit an agenda item or become a voting member, you can still join in the debate. You can enter the speaker queue to have your say – new speakers at Congress are warmly welcomed – or, if you don’t feel comfortable taking to the stage, you can sit back and soak up the atmosphere.

Fringe events

The fringe consists of a Learning and Wellbeing programme, social and networking events. These are scheduled around the main hall activity, so that you can fit in as much as possible during your time at Congress. They take place from early morning, through to late afternoon/early evening.

Information about the Learning and Wellbeing programme is available here.
