Students Programme: Caring for patients with additional learning needs for non-learning disability nurses

AFTA Thought has been using drama to train people at work for 25 years, enabling positive change through the sensitive, sensible presentation of difficult and challenging issues.
Their session at the RCN Congress 2018 will bring to life the lived experience of Andrew – a young man with learning disabilities who experienced the worst and the best of the NHS during a stay at a hospital somewhere in the UK! We will explore and demonstrate the challenges Andrew experienced as well modelling dignity in care and inspirational practice.
Participants will be invited to hold up a mirror to their own clinical practice and consider, as student nurses, what it is like to be on the receiving end of them!
