Diabetes and glucose monitoring technologies - a new era for diabetes care

16 May 2023, 08:00 - 08:45

  • Syndicate 2, ground floor, The Brighton Centre, King's Road, Brighton, BN1 2GR
Hosted by: RCN Diabetes Forum Committee

Wearable continuous glucose monitors (CGM) enable people with diabetes to quickly monitor and manage their blood glucose without frequent painful finger pricking, providing glucose readings with accompanying trend arrows via a subcutaneously implanted device, which measure glucose within the interstitial fluid. The development of CGM is a rapidly evolving area of health technology; as device use increases, nurses outside of specialist diabetes care will encounter more individuals managing their diabetes with CGM, and so knowledge of such technologies is of importance across care settings. This event will provide a concise introduction to CGM technologies and guidance for further development.

This event is aimed at nurses across all levels and fields of practice who may encounter people living with diabetes within their role. In addition, the session will be of interest to nursing students and potentially health care assistants.
