Dogs in health settings: The RCN protocol

14 May 2018, 14:15 - 15:00

  • Meeting Room 3A, Belfast Waterfront, 2 Lanyon Place, Belfast, BT1 3WH
  • Free
  • Hosted by: RCN Nursing Department and Pets as Therapy and Medical Detection Dogs
This event will discuss the role that dogs have in supporting the health and wellbeing of people in health care settings.
This will cover patting dogs, medical detection dogs, animal-assisted intervention and why the RCN worked with a number of organisations to develop a protocol to provide health care providers with a framework to understand their role in protecting patients/residents, visitors and staff as well as the animal so that the maximum benefit with the minimal risk can be achieved. Senior nurses, infection control specialists and allergy nurses may find this of particular interest.
