Exploring the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for nurses – does one size fit all?

16 May 2023, 17:45 - 18:30

  • Room 1B, ground floor, The Brighton Centre, King's Road, Brighton, BN1 2GR
Hosted by: RCN CYP Professional Issues Forum and the Education Forum

Collaboration: RCN Mental Health Nursing Forum, Learning Disability Nursing Forum and the Student Committee

Since the NMC made changes to the Standards for Nurses in 2018, it has brought to light challenges higher education institutes (HEIs) and host trusts are facing to ensure students receive the right field focused nurse education.

The workshop will facilitate discussion and analyse changes around the NMC standards for nurses and the impact on pre-registration nurse education.

By the end of the learning session, delegates will have:

  • explored understanding of the NMC Standards for Nurses and their application in HEIs and practice
  • debated the strengths and weaknesses of the current NMC Standards for Nurses, to inform and influence practice and learning support
  • reflected on experiences of education and learning in nursing across the breadth of professional practice.

Aimed at nursing staff working with pre-registration students, nursing students, academic staff in higher education institutes (HEIs), practice educators and facilitators.
