She is a Post Doctoral Fellow in the Labor and Worklife Program at Harvard Law School. A longtime organiser in the environmental and labour movements, she is the author of No Shortcuts: Organizing for Power in the New Gilded Age; and Raising Expectations (and Raising Hell): My Decade Fighting for the Labor Movement.
She says: “There's no workers I have spent more time with, and helped build more power, than nurses.”
She’ll be talking about her experiences of working in the labour and social justice movements and of campaigning with nurses and other groups.
Registered nurses have been the heart, soul, brains and power behind just about every campaign I have been involved in for the past twenty years, campaigns that led to amazing improvements in the quality of healthcare, in expanding access to healthcare, and, campaigns for higher wages and more respect for nurses and the nursing profession. Nurses are the most important single player in any healthcare system, and its going to take nurses in England to save the NHS. In an era of manufactured austerity, where corporations and the super rich demand more and more for themselves and less and less for everyone else, nurses must mobilize in a way you never have before to defend accessible, high quality healthcare.
