Neuropathic pain: Back to basics

14 May 2018, 18:45 - 19:30

  • Meeting Room 2B, Belfast Waterfront, 2 Lanyon Place, Belfast, BT1 3WH
  • Free
  • Hosted by: RCN Pain and Palliative Care Forum with the RCN Neuroscience Forum and RCN Diabetes Forum
This event is aimed at all members of the nursing family.

Neuropathic pain (NeuP) is very prevalent in patients with long-term conditions. It rarely exists alone and can be detected by some simple screening measures. Early recognition of NeuP, for example painful diabetic neuropathy and post-stroke pain, by nurses can lead to earlier treatment and improve the patient’s quality of life. Delegates will learn about the incidence, aetiology, screening tools and management strategies for NeuP and have increased vigilance when assessing pain to detect the signs and symptoms associated with NeuP.
