Wholetruth, untruths and lies. What should we be using to communicate with people with moderate to severe dementia?

15 May 2023, 17:45 - 18:30

  • Room 1C, Ground Floor, The Brighton Centre, King's Road, Brighton, BN1 2GR
Hosted by: RCN Older Persons Forum

This seminar will include a short presentation of the Taxonomy of Lies and the LIE ARM (Affective Reflective Model) followed by an interactive discussion about lie telling to patients with moderate to severe dementia, given the current NMC Code of Conduct - honesty vs. maleficence.

The presentation and subsequent discussion aims to prompt a deeper personal reflection with a view to improving practice. An open debate on this difficult topic will offer opportunities for people to share their views and develop practice in this critical area of care.

The event aims to break down associated stigmas and change how health care professionals think about dementia. It is aimed at anyone who gives care to people with moderate to severe dementia, regardless of role or grade.
