This session will consist of two free workshops, and will also incorporate the branch Annual General Meeting. Lunch and refreshments will be provided for attendees.
1) Assertiveness Project – human factors, assertiveness and team management
Presented by Dr. Julie Green, Director of Postgraduate Studies, Senior Lecturer in Nursing and Programme Lead for Specialist Community Nursing (District Nursing) at Keele University School of Nursing and Midwifery, the aims and objectives of this workshop are:
- To have an understanding of human factors; to know what they are and how they can impact patient safety
- To explore communication; to understand how assertiveness and effective management of situations can enhance patient safety and also impact on colleague well being
- To review personal assertiveness
2) Health Literacy – what is it, and why is it so important for all of us?
There are two sides to the coin when it comes to health literacy. We need to think about the health literacy requirements of our patients and service users, but of equal importance is how we, as the providers of healthcare services, make ourselves “health literacy friendly”.
This session, presented by Mike Oliver, Health Literacy Project Manager at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, will explore what health literacy is and what we can do to improve the way we work with and support our patients and service users.
You can book your place now on this Learning Event. The event is free for RCN members, while non-members will be charged £20 + VAT. This fee will be reimbursed if the attendee joins the RCN on the day.
If you can attend one branch meeting a year, then please make it the AGM. Come along and help make a difference, by shaping local branch activities for the year ahead and electing your branch committee members.
Branch meetings provide opportunities for you to get involved in shaping the future of your branch, have your say on how the branch is run and learn more about the activities it undertakes.
And if you're interested in getting more involved, why not consider standing for one of the branch committee posts, which includes branch chair, secretary and treasurer?
Being a branch committee member is a great personal and professional development opportunity – you can find out more about the roles here.
If you want to put yourself forward for election, please email the regional administrator on westmidlands.region@rcn.org.uk. This will ensure that anyone who can't attend the meeting itself is still able to stand. Alternatively, you can put yourself forward at the meeting itself.
If you want more information, please call the RCN West Midlands Regional Office on 0121 450 4300.
If you're a new member and this is your first AGM, please come along and get involved. It’s a great way to meet local colleagues and other RCN members and influence the year ahead.
If you have any queries about this event, or want more information, please call the RCN West Midlands Regional Office on 0121 450 4300.
