Mission statement

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Library and Archive Service (LAS) mission is ‘to support the nursing profession and inspire everyone to explore nursing and its history’.
From borrowing a book to improving your information literacy, the Library and Information Zone offers a wide range of resources and facilities to support your learning.

Library Services

Borrowing

RCN members can borrow up to eight items for a period of four weeks.

Using the Library

We hold 500 books and 100 journals here in Windsor Avenue. We offer access to free WiFi and have 6 network PCs available for you to use. The library offers a quiet study space but also has a group table for discussion work (when library numbers allow) with a whiteboard and whiteboard markers alongside to facilitate group projects. Phone chargers and Headphones are also now available to borrow on request from the Issue Desk (for use in library space only).

Literature searching

RCN members can request a literature search service and one of our Information Specialists will carry this out for you. We will search a range of sources relevant to your request and your list of references will be emailed to you within 10 working days.  To request a literature search, please complete our online literature search request form or phone the Learning Hub on 0131 662 6163/4.

Free printing

Free printing, scanning and copying is also available in branch for members.

Wellbeing area

A new Wellbeing Area is open in the Library and Information Zone. This includes soft seating, free tea and coffee making facilities with biscuit snacks and a drinking water dispenser. Colouring books/pencils and puzzles are also available to help you relax.

In the main body of the library, we now have a fabulous Book Swap section with fiction and lifestyle material to help you unwind. If you have any fiction books you would like to donate to the Book Swap, we will also be delighted to receive them.
