A new bi-monthly online club to chat, relax and learn more about diversity in nursing and beyond.
This is an event for RCN members only. You will need your membership number to sign up.
Join us for the first meeting of the Inclusion Café Book Club. The aim of this bi-monthly online club is to explore diverse stories and perspectives in nursing that haven't always been at the forefront. The café is a space to chat, relax and learn - so get comfy and grab a cuppa. We’ll be visiting different mediums – from books to podcasts and everything in between!
At our first meeting we’ll be exploring the theme of migration. We’ll be chatting with former RCN president and clinical nurse specialist Cecilia Anim. Cecilia was recently interviewed by the Young Historians Project - a youth-driven initiative, centring young Black people in the production of Black history in Britain - about her story of migration and the importance of capturing marginalised histories.
We'll also be looking at the book Moving Beyond Borders: A History of Black Canadian and Caribbean Women in the Diaspora. This is the history of Black health care workers in Canada, delving into the experiences of thirty-five post-war nurses who were born in Canada or who migrated from the Caribbean, sometimes via Britain.
Sign up to attend, and we'll direct you to a chapter of Moving Beyond Borders which you can read in advance if you have the time. Whether you have the time to read or not, everyone is welcome to join us to get the conversation going.
To keep the cafe informal, spaces will be limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you find you can no longer attend please cancel your ticket so someone else can take your place.
