Organising for Change: How nursing staff won fairer shifts and safer staffing at a major NHS trust

06 Jun 2022, 17:45 - 18:30

  • Carron 2, Scottish Event Campus, Exhibition Way, Glasgow , G3 8YW
Hosted by: Outer North Central London Branch with the RCN Organising Programme

Providing an opportunity for nursing staff to make their voices heard, this interactive workshop will discuss how RCN members at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust secured changes to their shift patterns, the issues they raised, such as unsafe staffing and workforce burnout, and the organising methods they used to achieve real change.

This event will give a first-hand account of the successful campaign in 2021, which secured fairer shift patterns for 2,500 nursing staff at the London NHS trust. Drawing on key lessons learnt from the campaign, attendees will hear how change was achieved by members, they will learn key concepts in organising, such as power, leadership and collective action, as well as how these concepts can be applied elsewhere.
