The journey of the international nurse: The first six months
08 Jun 2022, 13:00 - 13:45
Despite nearly 100,000 internationally educated nurses (IENs) in the European Economic Area joining the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register in the last 12 months, their fight to find work and become a registered nurse in the UK is often met with many challenges and obstacles.
Documenting the journey of an IEN, through the initial stages of applying for jobs in the UK, to completing the NMC Test of Competence, and then progressing to their dream job, this session will provide delegates with a greater understanding of the route an IEN takes to find employment, and how they can better support their development as registered nurses in the UK.
This session will bring awareness to both the International Recruitment Toolkit by NHS England and the new Pastoral Quality Care Awards, which are available to employers who recruit internationally. In addition, it will also create an open platform to discuss a more rigorous and nationally accepted process for all IEN’s who travel to the UK to work as registered nurses.
