Join the RCN East Midlands region in a celebration of the achievements of all members of the BAME nursing teams. The conference aims to explore how we ensure that both new and existing BAME talent is nurtured and given the best opportunity to thrive in the workplace.
This free conference, which is being held in collaboration with Health Education England (HEE), is open to RCN members and non-members of all roles, and has a fascinating line-up of speakers and topics.
The event will be chaired by Dr Ian Phillips, an Organisation Development Consultant with more than 25 years of senior strategic leadership and organisational learning and development expertise.
Ian has partnered learning and development teams to design and deliver innovative development interventions and offer “thought leadership” in leadership development, culture change, executive coaching, mentoring, action learning and equality, diversity and inclusion as integral to business excellence.
As well as chairing the conference, Ian will present a session entitled 'Foundations for success: Living Stories'.
Stacy Johnson, Associate Professor in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Nottingham, will be delivering a talk on the BAME Student Nurse project at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). Stacy is an advisor and speaker on health care and Higher Education equality, diversity and inclusion, and since 2012 she has been advising England's Chief Nurse as a member of the Chief Nursing Officer's BME Advisory Group.
In 'Just call me Sugar', Shuguftah Quddoos, an Equalities Practitioner from Nottingham who delivers training and support to organisations around equality, diversity and inclusion, will discuss her own personal journey facing up to stereotypes and perceptions.
There'll be an overview of the HEE (Midlands and East) BAME Network provided by Regional Clinical Support Manager Reena Masuria, before NUH Matron and Ward Manager Aquiline Chivinge talks about the BAME network she has established in the trust.
Catherine Pluck, Clinical Fellow at HEE, will showcase the work the RCN and HEE have done to develop a new collaborative careers resource and future nurse standards, before Manjit Darby, Director of Nursing Leadership and Quality for NHS England & NHS Improvement - Midlands, talks about her work supporting BAME nurses and the networks that have been established.
Finally, RCN East Midlands Operational Manager David Kirwan will provide an overview of the RCN's Cultural Ambassador programme, which has been implemented in a number of trusts across the region.
