RCN UK Learning Representatives Committee
The RCN UK Learning Representatives Committee provides a voice for RCN accredited learning representatives and contributes to the development of RCN policies on lifelong learning and career development in the workplace. The Committee reports through the Trade Union Governance Group to RCN Council.
Since 2007, the Committee has steered the RCN's learning and development team to be awarded £1.4million to fund projects that promote and protect learning in the workplace. Five projects overall have been overseen by the Committee. These projects have included:
- developing the RCN's learning and development pathway for accredited representatives
- developing and embedding learning agreements with employers
- understanding the needs of ageing workforce and working in partnership with employers to support staff to work later in life including undertaking mid-life developments reviews.
With the support of the Committee these projects have raised the profile of union learning, both from within the RCN and externally with employers and other key stakeholders.
The Committee also takes an active role reviewing RCN professional resources that are relevant to our members including supporting the RCN's response to the Shape of Caring review and developing RCN resources to support members with their NMC revalidation requirements.
The mentorship of students nurses has also been high on the Committee's agenda and it has worked in collaboration with the RCN UK Students Committee to support the RCN to commission a research project to develop an informed and evidence-based contribution to the current debates around mentorship and provide recommendations for future ways of working.
