Transforming our culture and governance

Recommendations and next steps

Implementing recommendations from independent reviews into the culture and governance of our College

In 2021, we commissioned two independent reviews into the culture and governance of our College. Their aim was to spot and address cultural and organisational issues holding us back from being the truly representative and trusted organisation our members and staff deserve.

We’re committed to meeting every one of the recommendations made by our independent reviewers, KPMG and Bruce Carr KC. We’re at the start of a long journey toward turning them into realities. By working closely with members, staff and transformation experts, we will change behaviours and improve processes to create a more supportive and transparent environment for all those who place their trust in our College.

Four themes of transformation

The independent reviews led to 38 recommendations. We’ve grouped these into four areas. We’ll share updates on our progress every other month.

Governance

These recommendations will help us achieve excellent governance within our large and complex organisation to provide clarity, transparency and accountability in all that we do.

Culture, training and development

These recommendations will help us create a culture of learning and trust, where members and staff are encouraged to speak up and are supported when they do.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

These recommendations will help us ensure all members and staff are treated fairly and given equal opportunity. We want to be genuinely representative, offering parity and access to influence across our diverse membership.

Congress

These recommendations will see us provide more support for members and staff at Congress – our annual networking and learning event. And we’ll be changing how our members vote on key decisions to ensure all voices are heard.

Who will lead our transformation?

Our members

Members have played a central role in helping us identify where problems lie. Now, a group of elected members will help guide us as we implement recommendations and ensure our transformation is member-led.

Our staff

Staff contributed widely to the independent reviews and will now help turn recommendations into action across our College.

Together, these groups will form a Partnership Board to provide oversight and leadership on our cultural transformation.
