Dave Dawes welcome Spring newsletter

Dave Dawes 11 Mar 2020

It’s been a busy start to the year and we recently held our last Board Meeting at Chesham House before regional staff moved to the new premises on Bark Street in Bolton.

It was a packed agenda and there were a lot of important issues that we debated and took decisions on. We have allocated over £20,000 to support local activity in the region and are encouraging branches to look at ideas for local events and initiatives and submit bids to the Board.

We ended 2019 above target in all membership categories and I wanted to thank all of you have helped us recruit new members and been involved in recruitment events.

We are delighted to welcome Congress back to the region for a second successive year. The agenda has recently been released and not only is there some fascinating content, but the North West region has successfully submitted three items:

Digital exclusion - That this meeting of RCN Congress discusses digital exclusion and how this affects health and social care. Proposed by the RCN Cheshire East branch. (Matter for Discussion)
Mental Health First Aiders - That this meeting of RCN Congress discusses the implications and opportunities for NHS staff related to the introduction of Mental Health First Aiders into the workplace. Proposed by the RCN Greater Liverpool and Knowsley Branch. (Matter for Discussion)
RCN England Board - That this meeting of RCN Congress asks RCN Council to establish an English country board. Proposed by the RCN Greater Liverpool and Knowsley Branch. (Matter for Discussion)

Congress is the biggest event in the nursing calendar and the region is not only hosting the event, but the Board has set aside funding to help for around 30 North West members to attend. Look out for details of the application process which will be confirmed soon.

We’re also looking for volunteer ambassadors to help us at Congress and your local knowledge and friendly face will help the event run smoothly in the NW region. Volunteers will be expected to work one or two shifts across the week doing a whole host of things to make our visitors welcome including being an information point, meet and greet and welcoming our guests in places like the cloakroom. Our Ambassadors will not be working full days so will have the chance to experience Congress as a member. If you’re interested please email the NW regional office northwest.region@rcn.org.uk with your name, contact details and what days you are available between Sunday 7 – Thursday 11 June 2020.  Please put ‘Congress Ambassador’ in the subject box.

We always have a strong presence at Congress and I look forward to seeing many of you there this year.
