Infection Prevention and Control Network

The RCN's infection prevention and control network is led and managed by the Professional Lead. It's aimed at any member with an interest in infection prevention, regardless of practice setting or role.

The network is a chance to keep informed about the latest news, publications, forthcoming events and other professional resources. Joining the network is an excellent opportunity to enhance your personal and professional life.

Following a two year secondment to manage the RCN's Standards, Knowledge and Information Services, Rose Gallagher has returned to her Professional Lead role and activity planning for 2017-18 is currently underway. During her secondment Rose focused on the strategic IPC and AMR elements of the role only which led to a pause on proactive planned activity. Looking forward to 2017 RCN IPC network members will be invited to contribute to RCN work in a number of ways and more details will follow once project planning is complete. Examples of current RCN activity can be found on the current work page. Other specific activity relating to the IPC network will include:

• Reinvigorating communications with the network
• Enabling the Network to develop a visible and impactful contribution to IPC at the UK and international level
• Updating of RCN IPC publications, specifically the RCN's position on the nursing contribution to antimicrobial resistance
• Exploring the development of a paediatric IPC network
• Engaging with members and logistics partners on procurement activity; for example, Small Changes Big Differences and the NHS Clinical Evaluation Team
• Continuation of support and activity on the OneTogether programme of work
