Modern slavery: Current work
Victims of modern slavery may access health care, but are often under reported and not recognised.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that many health care workers are unaware of victims entering and using the health care system. This was backed up by a recent event held by the RCN which identified a need for increasing awareness and understanding of the pathways of care required locally to sustain effective quality health care for these victims.
The RCN has launched a pocket guide with key information about modern slavery. This is part of a wider portfolio of work being carried out by the RCN and will aim to increase education and understanding among nurses, midwives and health care assistants in their role in best supporting victims of modern slavery who access health care services across the UK.
